Aeschynanthus 'Mona Lisa' is a trailing little show-off with glossy leaves and lipstick-red blooms that look like they were painted on by a houseplant flirt. It loves to spill from a shelf or hanging pot and rewards a little consistency with bright, cheerful flowers. A wonderful choice for hanging baskets, shelves, or macramé planters.
Lipstick plants bloom best when they get bright light and are allowed to dry slightly between waterings. A little root snugness often encourages flowering.
LIGHT: Thrives in bright indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sun, which scorches leaves, but insufficient light reduces blooming.
WATER: Water moderately; let the top inch of soil dry out between waterings. Reduce watering in winter. Overwatering leads to root rot.
HUMIDITY: Prefers 50–70% humidity. Mist occasionally or place near a humidifier.
FERTILIZER: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer (10-10-10). No feeding in winter.
TEMPERATURE: 60–80°F. Keep away from cold drafts and air conditioning vents.
TOXICITY: Non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans—a great choice for pet-friendly homes.
