Aglaonema 'Butterfly' is proof that you don't need rare or high-maintenance to be genuinely stunning—those broad lance-shaped leaves flutter out in a soft rosette like wings mid-flight, splashed in creamy yellow-green with delicate feathering along the midrib that makes her look effortlessly composed in any room. She's the plant equivalent of that friend who shows up to every event perfectly put-together without appearing to try, because neglect her a little, forget to water her, stick her in that dim corner where nothing else survives—she's fine, actually, thank you for asking. The 'Butterfly' doesn't demand attention; she just quietly makes every space look better and you'll wonder how you ever decorated without her.
Care Card
🌿 Light — Low to bright indirect light. More light intensifies the creamy variegation; lower light is genuinely tolerated without complaint—she's the most accommodating plant at this visual level.
💧 Water — Let the top 1–2 inches dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain. Drought-tolerant and forgiving; overwatering is the one mistake she won't quietly absorb without yellowing at the base.
💨 Humidity — Average to moderate, 40–60%. Comfortable in typical home humidity without supplemental assistance—no humidifier required, no misting schedule necessary, no drama.
🌡️ Temperature — 65–80°F. Never below 60°F. No cold drafts, no AC vents—she tolerates a lot but cold air is the one thing that actually gets to her.
🪴 Soil — Well-draining all-purpose or aroid mix. Consistent moderate moisture without waterlogging; not demanding about soil as long as drainage keeps roots happy.
🌱 Fertilizer — Balanced liquid fertilizer monthly in spring and summer. Nothing in fall and winter; gentle and consistent keeps those butterfly wings looking their most composed.
⚠️ Toxicity — Toxic to pets and humans. Calcium oxalate crystals cause oral irritation and vomiting if ingested.
🐣 Beginner Friendly? — Absolutely yes. Practically indestructible, endlessly adaptable, and gorgeous doing it—the Butterfly is the Aglaonema that makes everyone look like they know what they're doing.
