Alocasia amazonica 'Bambino Variegated' takes the already iconic compact Bambino—those deep glossy green arrow-shaped leaves with bold white venation that made the original a collector staple—and splashes irregular cream and white variegation across the surface in a plant so visually dense and dramatic it stops experienced collectors mid-sentence and mid-thought. She's small, which makes the variegation hit harder—every pale patch commanding attention on a leaf that's already doing a considerable amount—and she carries the full Alocasia personality underneath that striking exterior without apology. Compact, rare, and entirely aware that she's the most interesting thing in any room she occupies.
Care Card
🌿 Light — Bright indirect, non-negotiable. Compact size plus variegated tissue means reduced chlorophyll reserves across the board; good consistent light is what keeps those dramatic variegated leaves pushing healthy and vivid.
💧 Water — Top inch dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain. Compact root system rots fast; variegated tissue has even less recovery margin than the standard Bambino—precision matters considerably more than frequency here.
💨 Humidity — 65–80% required. Humidifier strongly recommended; dry air causes browning that shows immediately and starkly against pale variegated sections.
🌡️ Temperature — 65–82°F. Never below 62°F. Compact size means cold air affects her faster than larger Alocasias—keep her warm, stable, and completely draft-free.
🌱 Fertilizer — Quarter to half-strength balanced liquid every 2–4 weeks in spring and summer. Variegated tissue burns easily—go gentle and consistent. Nothing in fall and winter.
⚠️ Toxicity — Toxic to pets and humans. Calcium oxalate crystals cause serious oral irritation if ingested.
🐣 Beginner Friendly? — Absolutely not. Compact, variegated, and unforgiving of mistakes—this one is for experienced collectors who understand the assignment and are genuinely ready to protect something this rare.
