Achieve the glowing, refreshed skin you deserve
Plant Description
Alocasia 'Frydek Variegated' takes the Green Velvet Frydek—already a collector staple with its deep velvety leaves and crisp white venation—and adds irregular cream and white variegation across that dark velvety surface in a combination so visually striking it stops experienced collectors mid-sentence. The velvet texture makes the pale variegated sections glow in a way that glossy-leafed plants simply cannot replicate, each leaf a different composition of dark and light that never once repeats. Rare, velvety, and completely serious about its humidity requirements—this one is for growers who are ready.
Care Card
🌿 Light — Bright indirect, non-negotiable. Velvety surface plus variegated tissue means reduced chlorophyll across the board; good consistent light is what keeps those cream sections vivid and healthy.
💧 Water — Top inch dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain. Chunky well-draining aroid mix essential; never let water sit on the velvety leaves—moisture on velvet causes marks and fungal issues that are both permanent and deeply unfortunate.
💨 Humidity — 65–80% required. Humidifier is non-negotiable; never mist directly onto the velvety surface—water marks on dark velvet are permanent and will haunt you every time you look at the plant.
🌡️ Temperature — 65–82°F. Never below 62°F. Cold drafts damage pale variegated sections fastest and most visibly—stable warmth is the entire game here.
🪴 Soil — Chunky well-draining aroid mix. Velvety Alocasias are unforgiving of soggy roots; good drainage is non-negotiable and not a suggestion.
🌱 Fertilizer — Half-strength balanced liquid every 2–4 weeks in spring and summer. Monthly in early fall. Nothing in winter; variegated tissue burns more easily than green—go gentle and consistent.
⚠️ Toxicity — Toxic to pets and humans. Calcium oxalate crystals cause serious oral irritation if ingested.
🐣 Beginner Friendly? — Absolutely not. Velvet surface, variegated tissue, high humidity demands, and genuine rarity make this one strictly for experienced collectors who know exactly what they're getting into and are excited about it.
HOW OUR SHIPPING WORKS
We ship all live plants with custom packing, insulation, and lots of cushioning so they arrive in the best condition possible. Shipping rates are based on the packed weight of your order (plants + soil + pot + box + insulation). This helps us cover the real cost of getting breakable, living things safely to you.
In cold weather, we strongly recommend adding a Heat Pack add-on for each shipment. Heat packs are priced separately and add additional weight to your box.
SHIPPING NOTE: Shipping includes wrapping and insulation. Heat packs are not included by default—please add a Heat Pack add-on to your cart for cold-weather shipping. Shipping Days are Monday–Wednesday to avoid weekend and holiday delays.
PLEASE NOTE: What you see is the vibe — not the exact plant. 🌿 Each plant has its own personality (some a little more dramatic than others). Leaf shape, size, and variegation will vary, but pot size is consistent.
