Anthurium 'Big Bill' does exactly what the name implies—produces enormous, deeply ridged, bullate leaves that command every room they're in with the kind of effortless authority that comes from simply being the largest, most texturally dramatic thing present. He's a big, bold, tactile statement plant with that signature Anthurium structural quality cranked up to maximum; the kind of specimen that makes visitors stop mid-conversation to ask what on earth they're looking at. Give him space, humidity, and good light and he will absolutely justify every inch of real estate he occupies.
Care Card
🌿 Light — Bright indirect preferred. Those enormous bullate leaves need good light to develop their full texture and depth; low light produces flatter, smaller leaves and a generally less impressive Bill.
💧 Water — Top 1–2 inches dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain. Moist but never waterlogged—big leaves mean big thirst, but soggy roots are still a hard no.
💨 Humidity — 60–75% required. Large leaf surface area means high transpiration demand; a humidifier is the right call. Dry air produces crispy edges on leaves that are too beautiful to ruin.
🌡️ Temperature — 65–85°F. Never below 60°F. No cold drafts—Bill didn't get this big by tolerating uncomfortable conditions.
🪴 Soil — Chunky well-draining aroid mix. Big plant, big roots, big need for drainage and airflow.
🌱 Fertilizer — Half-strength balanced liquid every 2–4 weeks in spring and summer. Monthly in early fall. Nothing in winter.
⚠️ Toxicity — Toxic to pets and humans. Calcium oxalate crystals cause serious oral irritation if ingested.
🐣 Beginner Friendly? — Not quite. Humidity and drainage required—but intermediate growers with the space and the setup will find Bill an enormously rewarding addition to any collection.
