🌿 Light — Bright indirect, generously and consistently. Those enormous pendant leaves need substantial light to reach their full dramatic length and maintain the deep corrugated texture; low light produces shorter, less ridged leaves that don't do the King any justice whatsoever.
💧 Water — Top inch dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain. Chunky well-draining aroid mix essential—epiphytic roots expect airflow as much as moisture; never soggy, never bone dry, always draining.
💨 Humidity — 70–85% required. The King is a Colombian cloud forest native and he remembers it; humidifier is non-negotiable and should be running consistently. Never mist directly onto those magnificent, ridged leaves.
🌡️ Temperature — 65–85°F. Never below 62°F. Stable warmth produces consistent new leaf growth at the scale the veitchii is capable of; cold stress stunts the leaves and makes the King look ordinary, which is unacceptable.
🌱 Fertilizer — Half-strength balanced liquid every 2–4 weeks in spring and summer. Monthly in early fall. Nothing in winter; consistent feeding supports the increasingly dramatic pendant leaves that make this plant worth the whole humidity setup.
⚠️ Toxicity — Toxic to pets and humans. Calcium oxalate crystals cause serious oral irritation if ingested.
