Begonia 'Black Magic' is the genus at its most dramatically gothic—those deep, near-black leaves with their subtle iridescent sheen and contrasting markings look less like a Begonia and more like something that belongs in a collection of botanical curiosities kept under lock and key. She's compact, striking, and the kind of plant that makes people lean in for a closer look and then immediately start asking where to get one. Dark, moody, and completely unapologetic about it—exactly the energy a plant called 'Black Magic' should have.

🌿 Light — Bright indirect, no direct sun. Near-black coloration needs adequate light to maintain its depth and iridescent quality; low light shifts it toward dull olive-brown and loses the whole magic.
💧 Water — Consistently moist but never waterlogged. Compact root system dries out faster than you'd expect—check regularly and don't let her go bone dry or she'll drop leaves with theatrical flair.
💨 Humidity — 60–75% preferred. Dark leaves show browning edges immediately and starkly; a humidifier or humid shelf keeps her looking sharp and intentional rather than stressed and crispy.
🌡️ Temperature — 65–80°F. Never below 60°F. Stable warmth keeps those dark dramatic leaves coming; cold or fluctuating temps stress her fast and visibly.
🪴 Soil — Light, well-draining mix with good moisture retention. Airy enough for root health, rich enough to stay consistently moist without waterlogging.
🌱 Fertilizer — Quarter to half-strength balanced liquid every 3–4 weeks in spring and summer. Sensitive to over-fertilizing—keep it light and consistent.
⚠️ Toxicity — Toxic to pets and humans. Calcium oxalate crystals cause oral irritation if ingested.
🐣 Beginner Friendly? — Not quite. Humidity preferences and sensitivity to both overwatering and dry air require some experience—but she's one of the more achievable dark-leaved collector plants for motivated intermediate growers.

Shipping rates are based on the packed weight of your order (plants + soil + pot + box + insulation). This helps us cover the real cost of getting breakable, living things safely to you.
In cold weather, we strongly recommend adding a Heat Pack add-on for each shipment. Heat packs are priced separately and add additional weight to your box.
