She's one of the most recognizable Rex Begonias in existence, beloved for decades for exactly this reason, and she has absolutely zero intention of letting any other plant on the shelf forget it. 🌿 Light — Bright indirect, no direct sun. That spiral pattern stays sharp and the silver stays luminous with good indirect light; direct sun scorches and low light flattens the whole swirling effect.
💧 Water — Let the top inch dry between waterings, then water thoroughly at the base. Never on the leaves—water spots in that spiral pattern are particularly visible and particularly permanent. Drain thoroughly; soggy roots end the spiral permanently.
💨 Humidity — 50–65% preferred. A pebble tray or nearby humidifier keeps those spiral leaves looking crisp and editorial; never mist directly onto the patterned surface.
🌡️ Temperature — 65–80°F. Never below 60°F. Stable warmth keeps those spiraling leaves pushing consistently; cold drafts cause leaf drop and general disappointment.
🪴 Soil — Light, well-draining mix with good aeration. Rhizomatous roots need consistent moisture without waterlogging—airy soil is the correct answer and the only answer.
🌱 Fertilizer — Quarter to half-strength balanced liquid every 3–4 weeks in spring and summer. Light and consistent; the Escargot has been doing this long enough to know that less is more.
