🌿 Light — Bright indirect, no direct sun ever. That silver spiral stays most luminous and the spiral definition most precise with good indirect light; direct sun scorches those silvery sections immediately and low light causes the whole graphic composition to flatten toward something considerably less extraordinary.
💧 Water — Let the top inch dry between waterings, then water thoroughly at the base. Never on those spiraling leaves—water trapped in the coiled center causes rot and fungal issues that work from the inside of the spiral outward and are both avoidable and deeply unfortunate on something this graphically precise. Drain thoroughly every time.
💨 Humidity — 55–65% preferred. More tolerant of average humidity than many Rex Begonias but still appreciates a pebble tray or humid shelf; dry air causes browning at the spiral edges that interrupts the whole snail composition in the most visible way possible.
🌡️ Temperature — 65–80°F. Never below 60°F. Stable warmth keeps those spiraling leaves pushing consistently; cold drafts cause sulking on a plant where the spiral definition is the whole point and stress-induced poor new growth shows immediately.
🌱 Fertilizer — Quarter to half-strength balanced liquid every 3–4 weeks in spring and summer. Light and consistent; the Escargot is sensitive to over-fertilizing and will brown at the spiral edges to register her displeasure in the most graphically inconvenient location possible.
⚠️ Toxicity — Toxic to pets and humans. Calcium oxalate crystals cause oral irritation if ingested.

More forgiving than many Rex Begonias with a graphic payoff so extraordinary it justifies every bit of the care attention—intermediate growers who keep water off the spiral and maintain modest humidity will find the Escargot one of the most rewarding and most recognizable Begonias in the entire hobby.
