🌿 Light — Medium to bright indirect light, no direct sun ever. Those feathered pale markings stay sharp and the purple undersides stay vivid with consistent indirect light; direct sun bleaches the pattern and low light fades it—she has a very specific preference and she will express it.
💧 Water — Keep consistently moist using filtered or distilled water only. Tap water causes tip burn that shows immediately on those pale patterned sections; consistent moisture without waterlogging is the goal and filtered water is the single most impactful care decision you'll make.
💨 Humidity — 60–70% preferred. Non-negotiable for keeping those patterned leaves looking crisp and the purple undersides vivid; humidifier strongly recommended. Dry air produces browning edges that Calatheas use as their primary form of passive aggression.
🌡️ Temperature — 65–80°F. Never below 60°F. No cold drafts, no AC vents, no cold windows—temperature consistency is as important as humidity consistency and she will document every lapse on her leaves.
🪴 Soil — Well-draining but moisture-retentive mix. Consistently moist without soggy roots; peat or coco coir based mix hits the right balance between the two competing needs.
🌱 Fertilizer — Quarter to half-strength balanced liquid every 4 weeks in spring and summer. Light hand always; Princess Jessie is sensitive to over-fertilizing and will brown at the tips to register her displeasure formally.
⚠️ Toxicity — Non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans. Pet-safe—one generous concession from a plant that concedes very little.
