Hoya carnosa 'Nova Ghost' is the Hoya family's most ethereal member—those thick, waxy leaves emerge in the palest ghostly cream to white, slowly deepening toward soft green as they mature, giving the whole vining plant a luminous, almost translucent quality that looks like it was grown in moonlight and hasn't quite adjusted to regular lighting yet. She has all the legendary Hoya resilience underneath that delicate pale aesthetic, meaning she's considerably tougher than she looks, which is honestly the best personality trait a plant can have. Hauntingly beautiful, surprisingly sturdy, and the kind of plant that makes a bright shelf look like it was curated by someone with exceptional taste.
Care Card
🌿 Light — Bright indirect preferred. Pale new growth needs good light to develop properly and transition through those ghostly cream tones; low light causes etiolation and the pale leaves become washed out rather than luminously ghostly—there's a difference and it matters.
💧 Water — Let the top 1–2 inches dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain. Classic Hoya drought tolerance fully intact; those thick waxy leaves store moisture and she prefers a dry period between waterings rather than consistent moisture.
💨 Humidity — Average to moderate, 40–60%. Genuinely tolerant of typical home humidity—one of the reasons Hoyas are so beloved; a pebble tray is appreciated but a humidifier is not required.
🌡️ Temperature — 60–85°F. Never below 55°F. Stable warmth supports consistent vining growth and keeps those ghostly pale new leaves pushing on schedule.
🪴 Soil — Well-draining Hoya or aroid mix. Fast drainage with some moisture retention; thick roots need airflow and don't want to sit in moisture for any length of time.
🌱 Fertilizer — Half-strength balanced liquid every 3–4 weeks in spring and summer. Monthly in fall. Nothing in winter; consistent gentle feeding supports vining growth and the eventual waxy bloom clusters that make Hoyas worth the wait.
⚠️ Toxicity — Non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans. Pet-safe and guilt-free—trail her anywhere the pale ethereal aesthetic works, which is everywhere.
🐣 Beginner Friendly? — Yes. Hoya resilience wrapped in a collector's aesthetic—forgiving enough for beginners, interesting enough for experienced growers who appreciate something genuinely unusual.
HOW OUR SHIPPING WORKS
