Hoya pubicalyx Splash (Wax Plant)

Hoya 'Splash' is the Hoya that took the glossy, thick-leaved carnosa look and flicked a loaded brush of silver across it, because apparently plain green was never going to be enough for this one. Those waxy, succulent-ish leaves are heavily speckled and splashed with silver-white flecks across deep green, a scatter so random and so generous it looks like someone went to town with a paint-dipped toothbrush and then called it a cultivar. She trails and vines with classic Hoya ease and eventually produces fragrant waxy bloom clusters, which means you get the speckled show first and the perfume encore later. Speckled, silver-splashed, and thoroughly committed to the bit.

Care Card

🌿 Light — Bright indirect preferred. The silver splash stays crisp and contrasty with good light; low light dulls the flecks toward grey and the whole painted effect quietly fades.

💧 Water — Let the top 1–2 inches dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain. Those thick leaves store moisture, and she'd much rather be a little dry than a little damp. When in doubt, wait another day.

💨 Humidity — Average to moderate, 40–60%. Perfectly happy in typical home humidity; a pebble tray is a nice-to-have, not a requirement.

🌡️ Temperature — 60–85°F. Never below 55°F. Steady warmth keeps the vining going; cold drafts slow her down and she'll let you know about it.

🌱 Fertilizer — Half-strength balanced liquid every 3–4 weeks in spring and summer. Monthly in fall. Nothing in winter. Consistent feeding supports growth and those eventual fragrant blooms.

⚠️ Toxicity — Non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans. Pet-safe and splashy; trail her wherever the silver-speckled look fits.

🐣 Beginner Friendly? — Yes. Classic Hoya drought tolerance with a speckled upgrade. Forgiving enough for beginners, spotted enough that experienced collectors keep her around.
