Achieve the glowing, refreshed skin you deserve
Philodendron micans is the velvet Philodendron that somehow ended up being accessible to everyone—those heart-shaped leaves in deep bronze-green with a genuine iridescent velvet surface and burgundy-red undersides trail and climb with vigorous Philodendron enthusiasm while looking like they belong in a collector's cabinet behind glass. The color shifts depending on light and angle, catching warm amber tones in bright light and deepening to rich forest tones in shade, and the whole trailing display has a lushness and depth that most plants achieve only in ideal conditions. Velvety, vigorous, and genuinely one of the best value propositions in the entire houseplant hobby.
Care Card
🌿 Light — Low to bright indirect light. More light intensifies the iridescent bronze tones and deepens the velvet quality; lower light is genuinely tolerated and the plant stays beautiful—just slightly less shimmery about it.
💧 Water — Let the top inch dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain. Standard Philodendron drought tolerance applies; well-draining mix keeps roots healthy and the velvet surface looking its iridescent best.
💨 Humidity — 50–70% preferred. More tolerant of average humidity than many velvet plants; a humidifier supports the best leaf size and velvet quality but typical home conditions are genuinely manageable—one of the reasons this plant is so beloved.
🌡️ Temperature — 65–85°F. Never below 60°F. Stable warmth keeps those velvety leaves trailing consistently; cold drafts dull the iridescent quality faster than anything else.
🪴 Soil — Well-draining aroid mix. Trails beautifully and climbs even better; a moss pole produces increasingly large, more dramatically iridescent mature leaves that make the whole investment worthwhile.
🌱 Fertilizer — Half-strength balanced liquid every 2–3 weeks in spring and summer. Monthly in early fall. Nothing in winter; consistent feeding supports the vigorous trailing growth and keeps that velvet surface at its most iridescent.
⚠️ Toxicity — Toxic to pets and humans. Calcium oxalate crystals cause oral irritation and vomiting if ingested.
🐣 Beginner Friendly? — Yes. Velvet surface, iridescent color, vigorous growth, and genuine forgiveness—the micans is the plant that makes intermediate growers feel like collectors and collectors feel like they've found a reliable workhorse. Everyone wins.
HOW OUR SHIPPING WORKS
We ship all live plants with custom packing, insulation, and lots of cushioning so they arrive in the best condition possible. Shipping rates are based on the packed weight of your order (plants + soil + pot + box + insulation). This helps us cover the real cost of getting breakable, living things safely to you.
In cold weather, we strongly recommend adding a Heat Pack add-on for each shipment. Heat packs are priced separately and add additional weight to your box.
SHIPPING NOTE: Shipping includes wrapping and insulation. Heat packs are not included by default—please add a Heat Pack add-on to your cart for cold-weather shipping. Shipping Days are Monday–Wednesday to avoid weekend and holiday delays.
PLEASE NOTE: What you see is the vibe — not the exact plant. 🌿 Each plant has its own personality (some a little more dramatic than others). Leaf shape, size, and variegation will vary, but pot size is consistent.
