Plant Description

Philodendron 'Red Anderson' is the collector Philodendron that earns its name in the most literal way possible—those elongated, glossy leaves emerge in deep, burnished red-copper before maturing into rich dark green with a warm undertone that never quite lets you forget what color they started as, each new leaf a slow-burn reveal that makes checking for new growth feel like a genuine event. She's a climbing variety with serious presence, the kind of plant that looks intentional in any collection and makes other Philodendrons look like they're not trying quite hard enough. New leaf day with the Red Anderson is a whole occasion.

Care Card

🌿 Light — Bright indirect preferred. Those rich red new leaves develop their deepest color with good light; low light causes new leaves to emerge less vividly colored and the whole red-to-green transition loses its drama.

💧 Water — Let the top 1–2 inches dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain. Standard Philodendron drought tolerance applies; well-draining aroid mix keeps roots healthy and new leaf production consistent and dramatic.

💨 Humidity — 50–70% preferred. More tolerant of average humidity than collector aroids; a humidifier supports the best new leaf color and keeps mature leaves looking rich and glossy.

🌡️ Temperature — 65–85°F. Never below 60°F. Stable warmth keeps those red new leaves unfurling on a satisfying schedule; cold drafts slow new growth and reduce the red coloration that makes this plant worth having.

🪴 Soil — Well-draining aroid mix. Consistent moisture without waterlogging; a climbing support encourages the upward growth and increasingly large leaves that reward patience with serious payoff.

🌱 Fertilizer — Half-strength balanced liquid every 2–3 weeks in spring and summer. Monthly in early fall. Nothing in winter; consistent feeding supports the new leaf production that is genuinely the whole point of owning this plant.

⚠️ Toxicity — Toxic to pets and humans. Calcium oxalate crystals cause oral irritation and vomiting if ingested.

🐣 Beginner Friendly? — Getting there. Standard Philodendron care with a collector's payoff—a great choice for intermediate growers ready for something that makes new leaf day worth celebrating.

HOW OUR SHIPPING WORKS

We ship all live plants with custom packing, insulation, and lots of cushioning so they arrive in the best condition possible. Shipping rates are based on the packed weight of your order (plants + soil + pot + box + insulation). This helps us cover the real cost of getting breakable, living things safely to you.

In cold weather, we strongly recommend adding a Heat Pack add-on for each shipment. Heat packs are priced separately and add additional weight to your box.

SHIPPING NOTE: Shipping includes wrapping and insulation. Heat packs are not included by default—please add a Heat Pack add-on to your cart for cold-weather shipping. Shipping Days are Monday–Wednesday to avoid weekend and holiday delays.

PLEASE NOTE: What you see is the vibe — not the exact plant. 🌿 Each plant has its own personality (some a little more dramatic than others). Leaf shape, size, and variegation will vary, but pot size is consistent.
