Plant Description
Philodendron williamsii is the rare collector's Philodendron that makes people in dedicated aroid circles do a double-take—those enormous, deeply lobed, dramatically divided leaves on long arching petioles have a wild, almost prehistoric quality that looks nothing like the standard heart-leaf Philodendron and everything like something that evolved specifically to be the most architecturally extraordinary plant in any room it occupies. She's a genuine rarity in cultivation, the kind of species that serious collectors track down and then quietly refuse to propagate too freely because some plants deserve to remain a discovery. Large, lobed, and entirely worth the search.
Care Card
🌿 Light — Bright indirect preferred. Those dramatically lobed leaves develop their full architectural definition with good light; low light produces smaller, less divided leaves that don't honor the williamsii's extraordinary potential and nobody who sought this plant out wants that.
💧 Water — Let the top 1–2 inches dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain. Well-draining aroid mix essential; more forgiving than many rare collector aroids but still unforgiving of consistently soggy conditions that compromise root health.
💨 Humidity — 60–75% preferred. Humidity supports the best leaf size and the most dramatic lobing; a humidifier keeps those large architectural leaves looking their most extraordinary and prevents the edge browning that interrupts the whole prehistoric silhouette.
🌡️ Temperature — 65–85°F. Never below 60°F. Stable tropical warmth keeps those lobed leaves unfurling consistently; cold drafts slow new growth on a plant where every new leaf is worth anticipating.
🪴 Soil — Well-draining aroid mix. Large architectural leaves mean a substantial root system; good drainage and consistent moisture support the impressive growth that makes this species so collectible.
🌱 Fertilizer — Half-strength balanced liquid every 2–3 weeks in spring and summer. Monthly in early fall. Nothing in winter; consistent feeding supports the large leaf production that is genuinely the whole point of growing something this rare.
⚠️ Toxicity — Toxic to pets and humans. Calcium oxalate crystals cause oral irritation and vomiting if ingested.
🐣 Beginner Friendly? — No. Rare species, collector pricing, and the care requirements to match—this one is for experienced growers who sought it out deliberately and know exactly what they're getting into.
HOW OUR SHIPPING WORKS
We ship all live plants with custom packing, insulation, and lots of cushioning so they arrive in the best condition possible. Shipping rates are based on the packed weight of your order (plants + soil + pot + box + insulation). This helps us cover the real cost of getting breakable, living things safely to you.
In cold weather, we strongly recommend adding a Heat Pack add-on for each shipment. Heat packs are priced separately and add additional weight to your box.
SHIPPING NOTE: Shipping includes wrapping and insulation. Heat packs are not included by default—please add a Heat Pack add-on to your cart for cold-weather shipping. Shipping Days are Monday–Wednesday to avoid weekend and holiday delays.
PLEASE NOTE: What you see is the vibe — not the exact plant. 🌿 Each plant has its own personality (some a little more dramatic than others). Leaf shape, size, and variegation will vary, but pot size is consistent.
